The Summer School aims to equip researchers, data scientists and social scientists with the methodologies and insights necessary to address complex societal challenges.
The school is organised in four thematic days:
1. SoBigData RI and Project challenges
Introduction to the SoBigData Research Infrastructure followed by the presentation of real-world social challenges by companies and associations to inspire collaborative projects.
2. Health and Wellbeing
Exploration of the intersection between AI and healthcare, analyzing personal wellbeing and health data through advanced data analysis and visualization techniques.
3. Sport Analytics and Agentic AI
Examination of data-driven approaches in sports analytics, specifically in soccer and volleyball, alongside the application of emerging agentic AI methods.
4. Privacy, Fairness and Security
The final day addresses the critical themes of privacy, security, fairness, and responsibility in data science.
The Summer School provides a unique interdisciplinary mixture where participants can explore state-of-the-art tools in data analysis, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The school will have lessons from experts during the morning and will leave the afternoon to group work guided by dedicated tutors helping them in defining and developing their project which will be evaluated at the end of the school by a panel of experts.
Expert-led lectures will guide attendees through real-world applications of big data and AI, fostering innovative solutions. Alongside technical skill-building, participants engage in ethical and governance discussions that highlight the responsible use of data.

AIM OF THE SCHOOL
The Summer School aims to equip researchers, data scientists, and social scientists with an interdisciplinary understanding and skill set to address complex societal challenges. By blending technical training in data analysis, machine learning, and artificial intelligence with an ethical perspective, the program empowers the students in facing today's pressing societal challenges with a balanced approach that combines innovative data methodologies, stakeholder awareness, and a commitment to responsible, transparent practices.
Over four themed days, the SoBigData Summer School bridges the gap between advanced data methodologies and pressing societal needs. The core objective is to empower participants to tackle complex problems with a balanced, responsible approach, leveraging the tools and resources provided by the SoBigData Research Infrastructure. A distinctive feature of the program is its direct engagement with external stakeholders. The practical projects developed throughout the week are not mere academic exercises; they are driven by real-world social challenges proposed directly by partner companies and associations. By addressing these specific use-cases, attendees learn to combine technical excellence with stakeholder awareness and transparent, ethical data practices.
